Call For Abstracts – NextGen Supply Chain Conference 2021

Is your organization utilizing NextGen technologies, such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, blockchain, AI or Machine Learning, in your supply chain processes?

Are you a consultant working with clients on the digital transformation of their supply chain processes – from procurement through final mile delivery?

Or are you an academic researching how technology and digitalization is changing supply chain management?

If so, we’d like to invite you to be part of NextGen 2021, the only industry conference for senior level supply chain executives focused on the technologies that will shape and power tomorrow’s supply chains. The event is designed to provide a concentrated learning environment over three days, along with networking opportunities with peers, presenters and exhibitors. This year’s virtual event will be held November 2 – 4, 2021.

Presenters will be selected by the conference Advisory Board and not by Supply Chain Management Review or its editorial staff.

Abstract Guidelines

As noted above, NextGen 2021 will focus on the emerging supply chain technologies that will shape and power tomorrow’s supply chains. The emphasis is on how those technologies are being applied to supply chain processes today and in the future. In that regard, preference will be given to presentations that present examples of these technologies in action, where they can deliver the most value, the benefits being realized and finally, the challenges and pitfalls associated with implementation and how to avoid them. We recognize that consultants and academics may not be at liberty to identify clients/end users by name. 

Topic categories may include:

  • Artificial intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things and Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
  • Robotics, including mobile collaborative robots, piece picking robots and drones
  • Warehouse and factory automation, including Manufacturing 4.0
  • Big Data and the application of Predictive and Prescriptive Analytics
  • Blockchain
  • The Digital Transformation of the Supply Chain
  • Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
  • Additive manufacturing/3D Printing
  • Virtual and Augmented Reality, especially for training purposes
  • The impact of technological innovation on talent management and the workforce at all levels of the supply chain organization
  • The automation of transportation and logistics, especially last mile delivery and autonomous vehicles
  • Case study examples of how a company is utilizing these technologies in a supply chain process – the conference is open to all of the processes in the SCOR model, from plan, source, make, deliver and return, as well as the use of technology to better manage talent.
  • We are looking for start-up companies in the areas of AI, robotics, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), blockchain, 3D printing, IoT or other relevant supply chain technologies to participate in a start-up panel discussion

Attendees are responsible for the design and management of the end-to-end supply chain. For that reason, the Advisory Board will consider abstracts touching on the application of these technologies to core supply chain processes, including:

  • Talent and workforce management
  • Transportation, logistics, last mile and last yard delivery
  • Warehousing fulfillment and manufacturing processes
  • Supply chain planning, including S&OP
  • Cold chain
  • Control towers – especially tied into digital transformation and transportation and logistics
  • Smart manufacturing
  • How small-to-mid-size enterprises, including manufacturers, can identify the technologies that can deliver value given their limited budgets and resources
  • Closing the gap between technical team members, like data scientists, and supply chain team managers
  • Creating a digital center of excellence

NextGen Supply Chain Conference welcomes and encourages case study presentations by supply chain executives. Please get all necessary approvals from your organization prior to submitting an abstract. If outstanding approval issues remain at the time of submissions, please note those for review.

  • Presentations can cover how emerging technologies are impacting the responsibilities of today’s supply chain manager.
  • Abstract topics should be relevant to senior level supply chain managers responsible for setting the direction of their supply chains and executing supply chain processes. They can address corporate-level activities (planning, S&OP); digital transformation of components of the supply chain or end-to-end supply chain transformation; and operational activities (manufacturing, order fulfillment, and transportation, logistics and last mile delivery). Our advisory board has especially expressed interest in technology and the workforce of the future.
  • Commercial abstracts will not be considered – while solution providers may submit a proposal, abstracts should focus on the application of emerging technologies to the supply chain and not on a solution provider’s offerings. Solution providers should also note that a preference is given to supply chain practitioners.
  • If your presentation is not selected by the Advisory Board, please indicate whether you are interested in participating on a panel discussion.
  • To enable the Advisory Board to judge each abstract adequately, please provide a brief description of the proposed presentation, relevant application of information to supply chain managers and high-level conclusions and observations.

Notification of Acceptance

You will be notified of your acceptance into the technical program by Friday, August 6, 2021.

You will have seven (7) days from the date of the acceptance e-mail to confirm your participation.

If we do not receive your confirmation after a follow-up e-mail, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the program.

Technical Program Format

  • Content will be run in one track open to all attendees
  • Presentation formats will include:
  • 45-minute keynote presentations, including a Q&A;
  • 30-minute panel discussions on a topic;
  • 30-minute case study presentations from practitioners;
  • three to four 15-minute presentations on a specific topic within a 60-90-minute time block with Q&A;
  • 30-minute fireside chats with no Q&A.
  • Time for Q&A is included in your time slot, not additional time. The blocks with 15 min presentations will have a brief Q&A with the moderator at the end of the session if time permits.
  • Proceedings (Adobe PDF Files) are gathered about one month prior to the event and distributed at the event.
  • No technical paper is required.
  • Rough drafts of presentations are required and vetted by session chair-people to ascertain guidelines have been adhered to.

Cancellation Policy

While we understand circumstances arise that may prohibit you from presenting after confirmation, please let us know as soon as possible.
